Recent Work: “Walking in the Park”
The pieces here are based on my photographs that reference time spent in local parks and a recent trip to Arizona to see the Grand Canyon and the Slot Canyons. Many of the smaller national monuments in Arizona were closed during the government “shutdown.”
The battle to create national parks as sanctuaries for the public took decades, beginning with John Muir in the 19th century. It was a long, hard process countered by powerful men with economic interests. I recommend Ken Burns’ series on PBS, “Our National Parks: America’s Best Idea.” With the most recent presidential election, our majestic parks are under threat.
